I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). I apply theories and methods from Social Sciences to explore questions in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).

Much of my recent research is in collaboration with amazing advisees and colleagues from the College of Information Studies (iSchool; tenure home) and the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS; joint appointment). The overarching goal of this research is to advance our knowledge of as well as designs for smart, connected, and productive workplaces and communities.

Prior to Maryland, I worked in the HCI Group at Microsoft Research Asia and the Social Sensing Lab at the University of California, Irvine. I also spent several summers as a visiting researcher at NTT Communication Science Laboratories in Japan. I obtained my PhD in Communication with a minor in Information Science at Cornell.

Keywords that can best describe my research and teaching focus include Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), Human-Centered Computing (HCC), and Global Teams. My work has received funding support from the National Science Fundation (NSF), the Maryland Catalyst Fund, and the Global Classroom Initiative.
